Scrap FX Blog Hop!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi All! Welcome to the Scrap FX Blog Hop!!!!!!

For this special occasion we have come up with a list of questions and answers as a way for you the readers to get to know our Scrap FX Team! We have also created some works using some yummy Scrap FX products for your viewing pleasure. Ready?

Michelle Logan: What is your scrapbook "kryptonite"? (what style/colour/etc will people never see on your creations because youcannot deal with it???)
***I can easily say that I will try anything, and if I find it difficult, I try all the more to master it. However, I find myself hardly ever trying a monochromatic color palettes. I love playing with color and find it confining to work with all the same hue.

Michelle: What do you listen to or watch while your scrap and WHY?
***I rarely listen to music and often just like the silence.... being a Mom I LOVE the peace and quiet. But if I do want to, I will watch a comedy on T.V.

Klere: Do you snack or drink while scrapping? What?
***I also rarely eat or snack while scrapping. ( This seems strange to me as I LOVE to eat! LOL! Sometimes it is a piece of candy or some chips, but I always have a cup of coffee by me though :)

Adrienne: How do you jump start your creativity when you find that it is missing?

***I have found that a simple look at a color palette or a sketch will get my gears going. At times I will take a peek at a sketch and then will start and find that it turns into something different. Sometimes you just need that push to get you moving in the right direction.

Scarlett: What is your favorite technique(s) to use right now and why? What are some tried and true techniques you love to use?

***Right now I love using a pen to define and give charm and something a little extra to the layout.

Amy: At what time of day are you most creative, or do you prefer to create?

***I am most creative when I have time and there are no distractions which means between the hours of  10pm and 1am. LOL. Quiet concentration is a rarity around here! :)

Cindy: What makes your heart race?
***The phone ringing......

Elisabeth: If you were to describe one emotion while scrapbooking, what would it be?
*** Anticipation. Waiting for the final result. I cannot wait to get there, and sometimes I cannot stop til it is done.

Misty: What are you afraid of?
***Bees. Weird huh?

Maria: If you could choose a talent/gift what would it be?
*** I would love to be talented at creating art. I find all art forms so beautiful. Its a nice thought :) I would love to really dig deep and learn about painting. That would be a huge undertaking which I am just not ready to do :)

Flying Unicorn WCYDW and a Farewell :(

Hi All! Stopping in to share a tutorial with you for WCYDW at the Flying Unicorn. This week I will be showing you some ways to define with lines. Rather, ways you can define your design to give it definition and interest with the help of a fine tip pen or marker!

Here is my final result.........

To get this look begin by "white-washing your background with Gesso.

Once you have dried your Gesso, begin misting with several mists to get a drippy look. Take a paint brush to it, to blend here and there.

Splash on some White Mist. Let it drip.

To mimic the sweet flowers in the patterened paper, I took some corrugated cardboard and cut out some petals. I then inked them to define the ridges.

Glue your petals down.

"White-wash" each petal with Gesso as well, and then define each of them, by outlining them each with a black fine tip pen.

Background so far.......

Close ups.

Take a stencil and some black gesso and with your paint spackle create some fun designs. Spread it on hapharzardly.

Flip your stencil upside down and press on the stencil, to achieve some reverse masking.

Finished background.

I have added some sewing thread and some Prima brads to the design to add interest.

I have also added some Prima Alpha Stickers and attached a Prima Wooden Clip to the photo. I also added on single Manor House beauty.

And that's it! How easy is that. I love working in some defining with a pen or marker. I think it adds so much to your final result. Give it a try on your next project :)

Product List

Gesso
Corrugated Cardboard
Sewing Thread

Having fun with Scrap FX!!!!!!!!!

Hi All! It's my turn to share with you some beautiful products by the Scrap FX! Here we go, let's get right to it!

This month's chippie were beautifully done! I always find masculine/boyish scrapbook elements hard to come by at times, and this release fulfilled my every need :)

I pulled this paper and thought it's dramatic pattern would play well with the chipboard pieces. I needed to make a BOLD statement and I found an equally dramatic photo to match my paper and chippy treatment. I took several of the releases and treated them with several different mediums, each building up to the next. I have used a Gesso primer, topped it off with a coat of chalk ink here and there, a coat of misting, and then finally one more layer of Mixed Media Inks. I finished them off with a quick swipe of some black Gesso. I got a really grungy look with the combination of colors- browns, patina, and yellow. Loving the results of the chippy treatment!

Also one of my favorites things to do with chippies are to adapt them to make them work for me. I have broken most of my chippies into pieces, and placed them in different spot on the composition  Don't be afraid to cut them into pieces, tear off an end, split it in half or in fourths.... the possibilities are truly endless. The more you think outside the box the more fun you can have with them!

For my next one, I wanted to have a bit of fun with this awesome butterfly! It is so fun, I decided to play with glitter on this treatment, It turned out quite girly, I had played around with it for a bit deciding what to do with it, until I came up with the idea of adding it to my daughters back, once her silhouette was cut out of a photo. I went from there creating a fun color palette for the background. A few splashes of some blue art medium and a spool of blue thread did the trick!
I did not want to go too overboard with my color splashes (learning when to say when ;)) so I simply inked my Wordlet with brown ink pad.

 Until Next Time :)

Guest Designer for 7 Dots Studio!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi All! I am over-the-moon thrilled to share that I was recently asked to Guest Design for 7 Dots Studio-----I am star struck--- this company is incredible, their product TOP NOTCH, and the designers---- swoon worthy! You can check out more beautiful inspiration here on their 7 Dots Studio blog

I was so happy to receive a box full of yummy paper products from 7 Dots Studio and I have them to share with you today! I have four very different layouts- each tailored to suit the paper's design. I LOVE playing off paper- looking at each one carefully to see what fun little details it holds.

You can see for the first one, I chose to work with the amazing Dreamer Collection. The colors of this line are darker, more dramatic, and so beautiful. For this one I played off the color palette, first choosing a photo that would compliment the paper! That is half the battle in my opinion as if the photo clashes with the paper the whole process is that much harder. I picked some grungy stamps for my background, a mixture of textured fabric, and a few flowers which I have misted to have them all work cohesively together. The final step I found was that my design was missing something- something bold. I took a stencil to it with gesso, which has added so much to the final result. The stenciled image definitely creates a contrast that I was looking for!

For my next one, I wanted to have some fun with this playful print from the Hopefully Collection. The paper was fun and prefect for a photo of my daughter . The add-ons to the collection had stickers and a tag that their colors complimented the colors in my photo quite well. I then played off those colors in creating my background. I have used all water colors to achieve the look excluding my white mist that I used as a "paint" at the end to tone the colors down here and there. I have added some fun stickers and a tag behind my photo.

For Queen of Hearts- I went with a black and white photo of my kiddies..... I had two different wallet size photos that were meant to be a pair. I took a stamp set of Vintage Mirrors and stamped the image onto 7 Dots paper, I then cut the frames out and added some dimensional tape behind them to give them a lift off the paper. used tons of mediums as well as using a Stencil and Gesso to highlight the vertical lines in the patterned paper. I also added some black here and there to give some shadowing and contrast.

For my last one, I adore this collection! Love Is In The Air is AWESOME! WOW! Beautiful textures and prints. I love the colors of this particular paper--- the earth tones are beautiful against the blue shades..... I added some cardboard that I ripped into pieces to add lots of texture and give some added interest. I really whitewashed quite a bit of the paper and then added various mists in coordinating colors. I have also added some coordinating Scrap FX Chipboard pieces to the composition to help add a very masculine, yet fun boyish page. Of course I added the girly flowers too- couldn't quite help myself! LOL!

I want to thank 7 Dots for this AWESOME opportunity! I am so humbled by their talent and asking me to showcase their product has been a wonderful opportunity!

Until Next time,

Adrienne

Flying Unicorn May Kit--Coffee and Muse!

HI All! Stopping in for some Kit Shares. This Month's Flying Unicorn Kit of Month Coffee and Muse was spectacular and filled with beautiful goodies! The various textures and colors were perfection!

For my first creation, I was inspired to play with these beautiful Prima Blooms. I can't stop making baby pages with my daughter's newborn photos! I am addicted I think!
There is this gorgeous lace attached to Paper in the kit, I decided to rip it apart! I tore it into strips to give it some fluff and It then became a blanket or backdrop for my cluster.
I started building my cluster with the Prima Vine from the Embellishment Add on and building my cluster up around it, tucking in flowers here and there. For the background I wanted a contrast so I wanted a bit of a rustic look yet, still feminine- The background was created with a Prima mask from my stash and then I took some water color paint to the background.

I had so much fun playing around with the Tim Holtz Configuration Box-this month's OTP Project. I have decided to take all the compartments out and it will be a mementos box. I have lose trinkets and finds, or photos of days trips we take, and have no special place for it. I thought this would be perfect so all that stuff can have a pretty new home instead of a plastic ziploc bag.

To Create- it was so easy. I did not prime my box with Gesso which I usually would have done, but started with some ink pads (Mix of TH Distress Ink Pads, Clearsnap Chalk Ink and Prima Chalk Edgers) instead. One at a time, I took each color and lightly brushed over the top of the box, being sure to spread each color out over the whole box intermittently  I also left some spots of the box bare. I also included the chalk ink from the kit on this in small sections- the results were stunning. I then would take a makeup sponge and softly blend it all together.

Then, taking some Green Art Anthology Paint from my stash, I used my finger to lightly blend it through. I thought to myself how rustic it was turning out---- how could I get it even more so? I figured I would add more green to it- I took some gesso and spread it over the top haphazardly--- and then once dry I took another green mist (Glimmer Mist in Lily Pad) over top that making it look really old and rustic! It looks soooooo cool in person. The embellishments were the easy part. I have included Chipboard, paper flowers, ribbon, and burlap fabric from the kit, along with a Manor House Flower from my stash as well as the Scrap FX Chipboard Window.

Thanks for stopping in for a bit! I so appreciate all you coming and your sweet comments :)

Until Next Time,

Adrienne
